Lawmakers Press for New Approaches on U.S Ban

Chairmen of two House of Representatives committees: House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and six other lawmakers condemn the Bush administration's action on the online gambling ban issues. ??As an alternative to paying compensation to the European Union and other trading associates the government should investigate more on the legislation and roll back the U.S. ban on online gambling? they wrote in a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab

"...Instead to obey to a nonconstructive WTO ruling in a case filed by Antigua and Barbuda, US said earlier this year it was 'clarifying' it by no means planned to let foreign firms to offer online gambling services as part of the 1994 Uruguay Round trade pact.

"This announcement made other trading partners to claim compensation for the United States' verdict to retroactively leave out online gambling from its commitments under the General Agreement on Trade in Services, or GATS..."
