Reading your opponent online

February 14, 2007

Occasionally, in a poker game a small gesture is all you need to expose a player’s hand to an opponent. That is applied to a live game, because only then you can observe different gestures and other tells-tell signs, while in a game played online the chances of reading your opponent are extremely small.

If you believe your opponent is a loose player and in the end the game comes down between you and him, now it is the moment to pay more attention before you go all in. One of the things you know is that on the turn your opponent will go all-in. There is no doubt about that. During the whole game he swiftly jumped on each hand raising and re-raising pots and at the end of the hand he revealed pocket threes or 6-5 off suit. That’s our loose player…

In any poker rooms, online or land based you will find players capable to build around them a clever illusion of being loose players and in some way, they are able to keep their chips.

Loose players, who easily raise and re-raise, back up and take their time to play if they consider they have a winning hand. More important, they will do this if they consider they have a winning hand and have you think they are a loose player.

The important thing is that no matter how your opponent played until now, you must play your own hand the way you are supposed to and go from there. Let’s assume that on the board is a Q-Q and you are holding a J-J. You are wondering if it’s possible for him to have the Queen. Yes, it is. Watch him carefully from now on to observe whether he slows his game down at this point.

If he has been an eager little beaver up until now he could be holding a pair of Queens himself. Whatever you decide to do, always know where you stand. If you think you can win, you can go into the showdown and type for him that if he shows his cards you’ll show yours and with a bit of luck this will be the end of his game. Good luck!

Starting with Craps

February 13, 2007

Craps is one of the most electrifying and social game played in casinos trough out the world these days. It’s fun and attractive for many beginners, but what attracts them to the craps table, ironically it also scares them. The loud community gathered around the table, having fun, shouting and yelling, using all those craps terms and all their superstitions together with the complicated (at the first sight) table layout can be an interesting atmosphere to watch, from far … believe most of the beginners.

But, this is not so, actually craps is a simple game and you should not let yourself intimidated. Before starting to play at a craps table in a land based casino or online, a player needs to learn the basic etiquette and vocabulary of the game and only one main bet needs to be learned. More than that, this one main bet has better odds than any of the other possible wagers in craps, and after you’ll master this bet all the other bets will come in time.

More money is played at craps today than at any other casino game. The game is also one of the oldest of all the casino games and the only popular dice game at American casinos today. Its popularity isn’t it doubt and after a player learns the one basic bet in the game, its simplicity will not be questioned either.

Craps players have their own lingo. The terminology is also rivaled by the etiquette and good manners rules. This is a very old game and many of the players’ superstitions date back to its historic genesis. You will hear craps lovers saying that learning the terms and etiquette is in fact more thorny than learning the rules and strategies of the game.

In craps are two round games and the first round is called the Come Out Round. The second is called the Point. Although the game has two rounds, there is really only one basic bet.

The bet is this: the shooter (the one throwing the dice) needs to throw a 7 or 11 in the Come Out Round. These numbers mean an automatic win. A 2, 3, or 12 being rolled means an automatic loss. Any other number: 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 will become the Point and the game moves to the second round.

The objective in the Point round is to roll the Point number before rolling a 7. If the shooter rolls a seven before the Point this is an automatic loss and a new game will begin.

It is important to take into account that the online version of craps is a lot different than its land-based equivalent.

Is Free Online Texas Hold’em Poker Worth Playing?

February 12, 2007

Are the free online poker games worth playing? If you play them to gain experience and make different strategies they are, if you want to make money of them than no. You can’t win money at a free online poker game; the most you can win are some promotional prizes.

If you want to learn how to play the game, play the free version, as it is the smartest choice you can do. No matter how much reading about poker you would do, nothing can be compared to a real game. It will help you develop strategies and it will make you understand how the betting and how the interaction with the rest of the players works.

Playing the game for a few days will also prevent you from making costly mistakes, such as mixing up the hand rankings, a mistake often made by beginners. The hand rankings will be automatically memorized after you have spent a considerate amount of time at the poker table.

The downside when playing online poker is that you don’t get to see your opponents. You can’t be certain of their playing style, you can only take a wild guess but that won’t be 100% precise as the player might be bluffing. Try to observe their betting habits as much as you can and maybe that will give you an idea about the player.

Is the Online Poker Game Forged?

February 5, 2007

No, the online poker is not forged as the online sites do not make their money from your losses; they make it from the rake so they don’t have a reason to cheat you. Don’t listen to any hacker who brags about owning different programs which help them cheat on poker sites.

Play as you usually do, do not bother about such thinks; the sites do not intently make you lose, other players do it. The sites collect an amount of the money each player bets. That amount is called the rake, and the more bets are made the more the casinos make, so you can see that it’s in their best interest to have as many players as possible.

At low money tables you will often see more high valued hands than at other tables and this is not a flaw at the machine, is just that the game is more loose when this types of bets are placed. As we said before do not trust the hackers. Their so called cheating programs are nothing but a way for them to cheat you; you won’t be able to cheat any site with them. The security of any gambling site is way high for you to trust such programs.

Cheating may only occur when two players cheat together. They come prepared, play at the same table and communicate their hands and make different strategies. Players who take a large amount of time to action before the flop might be these kinds of cheaters. There may also be players that raise or re-raise depending on the round. A normal player usually has a strategy and he often bets in the same style, but these fluctuating players might bet in that way to help his fellow cheater.

If you can spot these cheaters be sure that the casino spots them as well and they prevent such things from happening. They can’t be banned forever as there always will appear new players which will try to cheat the system to make money. When you notice a shady player, report him to the casino and always be sure to play at an established poker site as you won’t have anything to worry about.
