It seems a very difficult task to handicap races for two year old maidens, but it really isn’t, because you can identify the contenders and eliminate the pretenders if you combine your own methods with the following criteria.
The horses with fast and steady workouts are the ones you should favor. A fast workout is a workout with 12 second furlongs or less, and a steady workout is one uninterrupted at different intervals of days (7, 10, and so on). The workouts that are 5 furlongs or longer should be given special consideration.
The horses that don’t have such workouts should be cut out because they don’t show interest in running, which means their chances of winning are very low. You should also favor the horses of winning sires, but try to know as many aspects about the sire as possible, like what type of races did they preferred, or on what type of turf where they the most victorious.
Favor the horses that were breed to possess high speed especially the ones with a high dosage index pays dividends that show up for smaller stables. The trainers of the horses are also important. The trainers that have a win percentage of 20 or greater at this type of race are the ones you should prefer. Speed is also important; choose the horse with the fastest time in its previous time.
