How to play different types of Sit and Go poker

May 21, 2007

In this article we will discus the following types of Sit and Go poker games:

- $2, $4, $8, $16, and $32.

If you are looking for a game with weak players and that does not require you to use a very sophisticated strategy, then you should try beginner Sit and Go tournaments. You are well advised to play tight in the beginning, a bit more flexible later in the tournament, and aggressive at all times. There are other options, besides beginner Sit and Go tournaments. There are tournaments ranging from $3 to $200, with a full ten players, and short handed to six. If you would like you could also play heads up games.

When participating in a beginner Sit and Go tournament you will notice that most of the players are inexperienced and will probably not be able to beat you. There are some differences between all the various Sit and Go tournaments. Personally I only play $2 games when I am down on my luck. There are times when I just cannot win. This is when I turn to $2 Sit and Go tournaments because they are extremely loose. By playing extremely tight I manage to get back on the right track.

If you are thinking of playing $4 Sit and Go tournaments then you should know that most of the players you will be facing are just as good as those in $2 Sit and Go tournaments. This is to say that you should not have a problem beating them. The thing about this type of tournament is that you will run into two types of players. The first type is represented by extremely loose players who play badly. The second type is represented by conservative players who are rather weak. You will have to adapt your poker play to the type of player you encounter.

Let us talk about $8 Sit and Go tournaments now. These types of tournaments are considerably different from the ones we presented above. The players are not as weak; in fact they are moderately good. You will still be able to defeat these players, just that you will have to work a bit harder. You will have to pay attention to the game and adapt your strategy if you want to make a profit by playing in these tournaments.

If you are thinking of playing $16 Sit and Go tournaments then you should know that most of the players you will be facing are rather good. Not good enough to beat you though. Note that these players know the basics, know basic odds, basic styles, and will know to re-raise a minimum raise. You will have to keep your guard up and play well if you want to make a profit. If you manage to do that you will discover that these tournaments can prove to be rather profitable. Not to mention that people will not pick up on the fact that you are a good player taking part in beginner Sit and Go tournaments.

At the $32 Sit and Go tables you will have to face sharp players. Some of these players are rather good so you should to locate the best two players and avoid them at all cost. You need not do that if you are a very good player and you know you can defeat them. Let’s say that you get a strong chip advantage early in the tournament. In that case you should sit on it and push harder late in the tournament. For a good poker player such games can prove to be very lucrative.

Remember that there are differences between these types of tournaments. If you are on top of your game you should not have a problem defeating the competition and you should be able to make a nice profit. Always pay attention to your game and look for flaws. You should also look for ways of improving your game.
