UK To Allow Card Games in Pubs

November 30, 2006

The British government is planning to remove restrictions on Internet gambling and to allow card games in pubs, thus striving to promote an industry that has considerably expanded over the last years. The laws that forbade playing card games for money in pubs will be changed next year; the 2007 Gambling Act will permit pubs to organize low-stakes poker games, so long as they don’t derive a profit from this activity. Nevertheless, games such as Blackjack and roulette will still not be accepted in pubs. Though the measure is aimed at enabling people to have freedom of choice when deciding how to spend their spare time, some voices say that combining alcohol with gambling is a bad idea that would lead to lots of problems.
