Ex-policeman charged with bingo theft

Jan 10th 2007
This is in our opinion another proof that the system does not work. Former Anderson, Indiana policeman that took part in the theft of bingo proceeds from a Fraternal Order of Police lodge was sentenced to 24 months probation.

The name of the cop in question is Chris Sollars. Charged with two counts of official misconduct for transferring over $9 000 in bingo money from the Police lodge's accounts into his bank accounts between 2003 and 2005, he pleaded guilty.

There was a plea agreement and as a result the felonies were reduced to misdemeanors by a Madison County judge. This is turn allowed Sollars to keep his mortgage broker's license. Sollars was also ordered by the judge to repay the money within one year.

The whole thing was exposed last year, in November. This is when representatives of the lodge appointed a special prosecutor to investigate its finances after an internal lodge audit discovered that $45 000 was missing from the lodge's bingo account. Sollars was the one that handled the lodge's bingo account.
