On July 2, the Town Council in Kentwood, Louisiana authorized video bingo saloons. Mayor Harold Smith said that thanks to the approved ordinance, the town can now collect taxes on revenue from the video bingo machines which are regulated under other laws than those controlling video poker. The money is going to be used as fundraisers for sponsoring charities.
Since July, a third video bingo games saloon opened in Tangipahoa Parish at the Kentwood Plaza in Kentwood and a video bingo operator from Ponchatoula said he would be also interested in opening a video bingo parlor in there.
